Gatwick Airport station to be refurbished

Gatwick Airport railway station is to be refurbished by Network Rail under a programme that will cost £53m. The programme includes a new platform, refurbishing the concourse, upgrading the track and signalling.

The work is due to begin in the autumn of 2011 and should be completed by year end 2013 and will be jointly funded by Network Rail and Gatwick Airport. According to Network Rail the airport station was the busiest UK railway station in 2009.
