BMI withdraws Business Class from UK domestic routes

Bmi has decided to withdraw Business Class from its short haul UK routes i.e. from London Heathrow to Belfast City, Dublin, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

From 27 January Bmi will operate an ecomomy class only cabin with certain higher economy fares qualifying for seating at the front of the aircraft and in-flight refreshments.

The current automatic free food and drink benefit for Gold, Silver and Blue Plus Diamond Club members is to be dropped. Only passengers paying the eligible higher Economy fare type will benefit from free food and beverage.

In addition, the Bmi frequent flyer Blue Plus membership tier is to be phased out altogether, although existing members will retain their status until the end of the membership year. Bmi says that this means members will only have to earn 16,000 status miles to move from Blue to Silver rather than 3,000 from Blue to Blue Plus and a further 16,000 from Blue Plus to Silver.
